Tart red fruit, earthy spice, a little funk, and a refreshing snap — light, bright, and alive. 50% País, 25% Cinsault, 25% Moscatel de Alejandría from "Los Pellines," an 80-year-old vineyard of dry-farmed, own-rooted bush vines on granitic soil in Chile's coastal Itata Valley. Each variety fermented separately in open vats, blended and aged 10 months in steel. Unfined, unfiltered, minimal sulfur. Organically grown. Estimated 1,500-2,500 cases produced. Nacho Pino Román came home to Chile in 2018 after working harvests in Portugal and Napa, with one goal: revive the ancient winemaking traditions of the Itata Valley. He works with four small growers in Coelemu, 20 kilometers from the Pacific, farming vines that were here long before anyone called this "natural wine." Pipeño is Chile's original farmhouse wine — made by families for their own tables, bottled in liters, and never meant to impress anyone.
