2024 Domaine Du Pelican Pinot Noir Clos Sainte-Laurent

Floral, bright, and emphatically Jura — red fruit, cranberry, toasted earth, wild herbs, and a dark mineral undercurrent that could only come from Bajocian limestone over grey Lias marl. The 2024 Domaine du Pélican "Clos Saint-Laurent" is biodynamically farmed Pinot Noir from a single walled parcel behind the winery at 340–380 meters in Arbois — 10-to-45-year-old vines, aged 60% in neutral Burgundian barrels and 40% in vat, no new oak, no shortcuts. The Pélican team resisted making a single-varietal Pinot Noir for years — worried that Guillaume d'Angerville's Volnay reputation would prevent them from making something truly of the Jura rather than of Burgundy — and waited until 2018 to release the first vintage. The 2024 settles the argument: this is a Jura wine, through and through, with the finesse and mineral precision of its terroir and none of the weight you'd expect from the man who makes Clos des Ducs.
