2024 Brea Margarita Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

Ripened plum, mineral, dark fruit, and a savory, structured finish with mild fine-grained tannins from tiny berries — delicate, cool-climate Cabernet that doesn't try to be Napa. 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot, 5% Merlot from Margarita Vineyard, the only vineyard in the Santa Margarita Ranch AVA — 1,000 feet elevation, 15 miles from the Pacific, on granitic shale over an uplifted limestone seabed. Spontaneously fermented, aged 20 months in used French oak, unfined, unfiltered. Certified sustainable and organically farmed. Estimated 500-800 cases produced. Brea is a collaboration between Chris Brockway of Broc Cellars and T. Edward — this is their eighth vintage from this site, and they chose it specifically because it's "too cool" for California Cab by conventional wisdom. That mineral core running through every sip says otherwise.
