2023 Marquis D'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru "Champans"

The 2023 Marquis d'Angerville "Champans" comes from 3.98 hectares of south-east facing limestone and clay across two parallel plots running — the largest and most important holding in Champans, first documented in 1507 and once owned by the Dukes of Burgundy, and farmed biodynamically since 2006.

The d'Angerville family has owned these vineyards since 1804 — and it was Sem d'Angerville, Guillaume's grandfather, who in the 1920s famously refused to sell his grapes to négociants blending fraudulent wine. He began estate-bottling instead, and changed the course of Burgundy forever.
