2023 Domaine Rougeot Meursault " Sous La Velle " ( Sans Soufre)

Around 400 cases made, depending on the vintage. Full yet straight — ripe white fruit, candied lemon, a whisper of hazelnut, and a discreet mineral framework carried by a saline tension that keeps the generosity of Meursault honest and precise. The "Sans Soufre" designation matters: Pierre-Henri Rougeot only bottles this wine without sulfur when the vintage is clean enough to stand entirely on its own — and 2023 made that case. Biodynamically farmed 55-year-old vines on a 2.5-hectare parcel at the foot of the Meursault hill, directly opposite the Château de Meursault — richer soils, less limestone than the hillside, which is exactly why the wine has the texture and early generosity it does. Hand-harvested, whole-bunch pressed, native yeast, 20 months in barrel without batonnage, unfined, unfiltered. Pierre-Henri returned to his family's 18th-century cellar in 2010 and has been making some of the most quietly serious Meursault in the village ever since — the kind of wines serious collectors find before everyone else does.
