In 2007, Cédric Chignard took responsibility for this fourth-generation family domaine from his father Michel, inheriting not just eight hectares of prime Beaujolais real estate but a legacy of passionate perfectionism. What sets Domaine Chignard apart isn't just their meticulous approach to winemaking—it's their extraordinary terroir.
Situated right at the top of the hill bordering Moulin-à-Vent, on pure granitic soil in the heart of the Fleurie appellation, the Chignard vineyards occupy one of Beaujolais's most enviable positions. Their flagship site, "Les Moriers," is an exceptional vineyard that is not only steep and stony, with a granite core, but a portion of it reaches into Moulin-à-Vent—creating a unique marriage between Fleurie's characteristic delicacy and Moulin-à-Vent's structural depth and Rhône-like aromatics.
Under Cédric's stewardship, the domaine has expanded to include Juliénas "Beauvernay," a small plot inherited from his mother, where old vines on steep slopes of schist-like blue volcanic stone yield "an electric lightning bolt of Gamay" that can be enjoyed young or aged for several years.
What emerges from this privileged terroir and thoughtful winemaking is something special, and explains why Fleurie has earned its reputation as the most elegant of the Beaujolais crus. These are elegant, serious and concentrated expressions of terroir that happen to offer exceptional value.
For those seeking authentic Beaujolais with both finesse and depth, Cédric Chignard's bottles deliver a masterclass in what this magical region can achieve when tradition meets terroir.
