More intellectual and aromatic than the Lavaut — spice, rooibos, wilted rose petal, a citrus-inflected freshness, and a long finish of surprising detail and lift. Combe au Moine sits directly above Clos Saint-Jacques on the northern slope of Gevrey, a steep, narrow corridor of thin limestone where cool air funnels down from the forest above — closer in spirit to Chambolle than to the muscle of Lavaut or Estournelles. Organically farmed, fermented with partial carbonic maceration, no sulfur until bottling, aged in partially new oak without racking for twelve months. Pierre Duroché sources this from Marianne's family holdings under the Pierre & Marianne label — the same meticulous hands, a different corner of the village, and a wine that rewards the patient and the curious in equal measure.
