For those who work the vineyards in the Mosel, it’s a labor of love and passion. The work is hard and grueling on slopes where the work can only be done by hand, the return on investment, sadly low as Mosel wines are extremely undervalued. Many vineyards are going fallow and when this happens it is likely it will never be planted with vines again. Passionate young people such as Philip Lardot can receive the vineyard for free you just have to be ready to work your ass off. He’s doing his best, we just have to buy the wine to serve our part.
The easy part is to like this wine, it feels almost Burgundian, crisp, lemon curd, prickled with acidity and a little volume/texture from old barriques/tonneau.
