Around 175 cases made! More forward and aromatic than Les Caillerets — broader on the palate, with successive waves of flavor, a warm and generous mid-palate.
Caroline planted just over a third of a hectare to Chardonnay here thirty years ago, with less wind than anywhere else in the appellation — which pushes ripeness faster and gives La Maltroie its characteristic roundness and early accessibility.
Certified organic since 2014, whole-cluster pressed, 18–20 months in barrel with restrained new oak, minimal filtration — the same Caroline Lestimé who took over from Jean-Noël in 1989 and spent the next three decades quietly building one of Chassagne's most complete estates from the inside out. Drink it now or cellar to 2030 — it will reward both decisions differently.
