2022 Giacomo Fenocchio Barolo Villero
Giacomo Fenocchio has been a family estate in Monforte d'Alba since 1894, and five generations later the wines are still made the traditional way, with long macerations and aging in large old Slavonian oak casks. Villero is a cru in Castiglione Falletto, and the 2022 shows the vineyard's classic mix of dark cherry, rose petal, dried herbs, and firm tannin. Fenocchio held onto the old-school style while much of Barolo chased ripeness and new oak, so these wines stay savory and built for the table. Decant it for an hour and pour it next to braised short ribs, mushroom risotto, or a hunk of aged Parmigiano.
