Green apple, candied orange zest, white pepper, a mineral thread, and a savory herbal note that is unmistakably Grüner — juicy, complex, and alive, with fine acidity and a finish that punches well above what any entry-level wine has a right to deliver. The 2024 Rudi Pichler "Wachau" is a Federspiel blend drawn from valley floor, hillside, and high-elevation terraced sites across the estate in Wösendorf — seven steep terraced vineyard sites harvested at different times, foot-crushed, low yields of 30–35 hl/ha, bone dry. Pichler's family has been tending vines in Wösendorf since 1731; Rudi took over in 1997 and says simply: "I'm a wine caretaker, not a winemaker." Three centuries of that philosophy in a glass.
