Golden apple, quince, zesty satsuma, warm spice, and a thread of stoniness — crystalline acidity, pure and humming with tension, with a ripeness that spills over and floods the finish with light and energy. The 2024 Château de Plaisance Chenin Blanc VDF is certified biodynamic — this estate has been organic since 1995 and biodynamic since 2008 — from schist, spilite, and sandstone soils in the heart of Anjou, native yeast, partial malolactic, 11 months in stainless, minimal sulfur. Vanessa Cherruau took over Plaisance in 2019 — a city girl, a former journalism student, who went to a wine tasting one day and never looked back, eventually buying one of Anjou's most storied biodynamic estates with no family money and no winemaking background. Just conviction. Roughly 1,000 cases made. The entry point to the portfolio — and already extraordinary.
