Massimo Setaro is seeking to transform the zone’s reputation and bring the wines of Vesuvio the modern-day recognition he feels they deserve. Looming over the vineyards is the only active volcano in Europe, Mt Vesuvius. The soil, unforgiving volcanic sand is inhospitable to phylloxera and provides a backdrop of smoky minerality in all of the wines. This makes for a masterful pairing with grilled seafood.
