Cherry, dark berry, orange rind, spice, and a quiet thread of old wood — medium-bodied, refined, and quintessentially Volnay, with a warmth and generosity that sets it apart from the more austere Clos des Chênes. The 2023 Domaine Michel Lafarge "Clos du Château des Ducs" is a true clos and a true monopole — 0.57 hectares located literally in the garden of the domaine, vines planted between 1946 and 1985 on deep brown clay over limestone, walled on all sides, facing southeast at 290 meters. Certified organic and Demeter-certified biodynamic, 100% destemmed by hand, native yeast, 18 months in older barrels, unfiltered. Michel Lafarge's father acquired this parcel in 1900 — and when you open it, you can feel all of that. Give it time.
