Blackberry, cherry, lavender, Indian spice, flint, with silky tannins that seem to go on forever. 2023 was one of Burgundy's warmest vintages, yet this wine wears it gracefully — ripe and generous with a sapid mineral core that keeps everything focused. Decant it now or give it a few years. Drinking window: 2027–2040.
The name comes from "mouches à miel" — old Burgundian dialect for honey bees that once lived in this sun-drenched clos bordering Pommard. It's technically Premier Cru, but Clos des Mouches trades and drinks like something grander. Drouhin owns over half the vineyard — 14 of 25 hectares — assembled parcel by parcel in the 1920s by the founder's son. Both the red and white have achieved near-mythical status for the house.
Native yeast fermentation, 14–18 months in French oak (25% new). Organic since the late 1980s, biodynamic since the 1990s. 98 points James Suckling.
