Roughly 250-325 cases made per year depending on the vintage. Red cherry, wild strawberry, raspberry, a whisper of pepper and earth — transparent, vibrant, and alive, with Gamay's bright acidity lifting the Pinot's structure into something that drinks like a cool summer evening in Volnay. The 2023 Domaine Michel Lafarge "L'Exception" is a 50/50 co-planted field blend of Pinot Noir and Gamay from a single one-hectare parcel in Les Lombois — vines planted in 1928, grown together, harvested together, vinified together, as they have been for nearly a century. Certified organic and Demeter-certified biodynamic, concrete tank fermentation, native yeast, 15–18 months in used barrel, unfined, unfiltered. Passetoutgrain is Burgundy's most ancient red wine tradition — the blending of Pinot and Gamay in the same vat — and almost nobody does it like this anymore. Clothilde Lafarge's great-grandfather planted these vines. That's the whole story.
