The 2023 Domaine Bersan Côtes d'Auxerre Bourgogne Blanc is a bright, precise Chardonnay with citrus zest, stone fruit, and a clean saline finish driven by the ancient Kimmeridgian clay-limestone soils beneath the vines. Father and son Jean-Louis and Jean-Christophe Bersan farm 22 hectares in the village of Saint-Bris-le-Vineux — certified organic by Ecocert since 2012, with biodynamic practices layered in over the years — exactly the kind of small, family-driven, well-farmed domaine that lets a place speak for itself. Fun fact: Saint-Bris-le-Vineux is the only village in all of Burgundy where Sauvignon Blanc is officially planted — the Bersans make that too, but this Chardonnay is proof the rest of the appellation is just as worth paying attention to. Pair with roast chicken, fish, or a good goat cheese.
