Founded in 2018, Bideona — meaning "the good way" in Basque — is the brainchild of Andreas Kubach MW, whose ambition is to restore the primacy of terroir in Rioja wines. In a region long defined by oak, it's a refreshing and quietly radical statement.
Las Parcelas Blanco draws from 50-year-old vines across multiple villages of Rioja Alavesa, a field blend led by Viura with other indigenous white varieties. Whole-bunch pressed into 80% concrete and 20% used and new French oak, the goal is to express the character of Viura without fermentation aromas or excessive wood influence.
The result is quietly compelling. A subtle yet intriguing nose opens in the glass to reveal stone fruit, herbs, and white flowers, with a juicy, refreshing palate and a chalky mineral finish. Planted on high-altitude limestone hillsides, the vines deliver concentrated, low-yielding fruit with a clear identity that sets this apart from almost anything else in Spain at the price.
Wonderful with grilled sea bass, white gazpacho, or Manchego with honey.
