2021 Smith-Madrone Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

$67.00

The 2021 Smith-Madrone Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is a dry-farmed Spring Mountain red of real precision and mountain character — black cherry, red currant, wildflowers, sage, graphite, and tobacco leaf on the nose, with firm, sky-scraper tannins that are somehow simultaneously silky, and a long, mineral finish that earns every minute of cellaring. Brothers Stuart and Charles Smith have farmed this same steep volcanic hillside at 1,300–2,000 feet since 1971 — no irrigation, no outside investors, no chasing trends — just two brothers, one mountain, and over fifty years of making wine they actually want to drink, exactly the kind of human-scale, place-driven story our shop exists to tell. Fun fact: 2021 is considered one of Napa's finest vintages of the century — severe drought cut yields by up to 60% in parts of the valley, but what made it to harvest was extraordinarily concentrated, and the Smith-Madrone earned accolades that would justify a price tag three times higher than its $67. Pair with braised short ribs, roast lamb, aged cheeses, or put a few down and open them on a special occasion in 2030.
