Domaine de l’Estang’s Sancerre comes from two hectare’s worth of parcels, split between the flinty soils of Ménétréol-sous-Sancerre and the clay-limestone soils of Thauvenay, and planted between 2004 and 2012. With just 50 milligrams per liter of added sulfur, this is lively and expansive, bursting with tangy orchard fruit and overlaid with gentle floral elements. Like its Coteaux du Giennois counterpart, it is simultaneously rich and mineral-driven, offering a satisfying breadth of texture rarely encountered in more heavily manipulated and market-driven versions of the appellation. - Rosenthal
