Bacchus, no not the Roman name for the Greek god Dionysus, the bizarro cross of Silvaner and Riesling crossed with Muller-Thurgau. This early ripening variety has less acidity than Riesling and the aromatics of Sauvignon Blanc. Planted in bulk, it’s not normally interesting but our well trusted importer brought it in as their first imported Bacchus and so we followed suit.
If you are still tracking, we loved the honest green fruit, rustic simplicity and light as a feather weight. It evaporates from the glass poolside with a fresh garden greens salad lightly dressed, just like the wine. Such good simple drinking.
