AMI, or friend in French, is a collaboration between Paul Perarnau and Willy Roulendes. Paul is the farmer and Willy the winemaker. Both have history and experience with some who’s who but we aren’t dropping all the names. We were however impressed by their voice, the wines feel traditional but have an indescribable wild natural edge, full of intrigue and nuance.
When we were in Paris spring of 2024 we discovered the wines from AMI thanks to our favorite cheese and wine merchant in the 11th: Source Fromagerie. Didier, owner and "fromager" lead us to a firm and farm goat cheese from the Loire Valley to be paired with this Burgundy. It was a beautiful pairing which enhanced both the flavor and the cheese. While we are in no way dogmatic about what must be paired with what, there are moments of objective perfection that cannot be denied.
We love these indie shopkeepers of Paris as they are truly the pulse and the energy of our favorite city on earth. You will also find the AMI wines being poured at "Les Enfants du Marche" and "The Butcher of Paris" at the bustling, local favorite Marche Des Enfants Rouge. This market is always our first stop for nourishment when we arrive in Paris.
Enjoy this bottle as you would white burgundy — with creamy sauces or seafood — just promise fill us in on how it goes...we’d love to share contemplations.
