Silvio Messana, Italian born and raised, was once a New Yorker--he, his wife and sons, left in the later part of the 1990's to take over his family farm that his mother had tended after Silvio's father's passing. At the time the family were growing grapes and then selling them to others to make wine, negociants. Silvio's first vintage was 2000 and shortly after the family decided to go all in on Biodynamics. We had the chance to meet Silvio around 2009 while he was toucing around and visiting his customers. A kind, gentle, and wickedly sharp dresser.
His wines are powerful, layered, thought provoking. To our taste, they require a bit of a decant. Want to fall head over heals in love? Pair with a thick T-bone steak.
