In the current landscape the visions of past Muscadet no longer exists. Jérôme Brétaudeau thankfully treats his Muscadet more like Burgundy, old vines planted in the 1980’s, native yeasts, extended aging on the lees for 18-24 months in concrete, grown in Gabbro - Rocky soils of granite and white/pink quartz. The result is a concentrated white, richly textured, with racy acid and freshness even though the wine goes through malolactic fermentation. Not the Muscadet of years past, although it’s thoughtful, persistent and meaningful. If you enjoy White Burgundy it’s a must try!
